Child Benefit Rates 2025/26
First child: £26.05 per week (£1,354.60/year). Each additional child: £17.25 per week (£897/year).
High Income Child Benefit Charge
If either parent earns over £60,000, you must repay some child benefit through the High Income Charge. You lose 1% of the benefit for every £200 earned over £60,000. At £80,000+, you repay 100%.
Even if you lose all the benefit, it's worth claiming to protect your State Pension NI credits. Use our salary calculator for your full take home pay.
What This Calculator Does
This calculator shows your Child Benefit entitlement and any High Income Child Benefit Charge (HICBC) that may apply if either parent earns over £60,000. It is designed for parents and guardians claiming or considering claiming Child Benefit.
How the Calculation Works
Child Benefit pays £26.05/week for the eldest child and £17.25 for each additional child. If the higher earner has income between £60,000 and £80,000, 1% of the benefit is clawed back for every £200 above £60,000.
Common Scenarios
A family with two children where both parents earn under £60,000 receives £2,254/year tax-free. If one parent earns £70,000, they'd repay 50% through HICBC, netting £1,127. Above £80,000, the entire benefit is effectively repaid.
