Am I Better Off This Year?
Compare 2024/25 vs 2025/26 take home pay.
What This Calculator Does
This calculator shows how your take-home pay has changed between tax years, highlighting the effect of threshold freezes, rate changes, and fiscal drag. It is designed for employees and self-employed workers comparing their tax position across different tax years.
How the Calculation Works
It calculates your full tax position for each selected year using that year's specific rates, thresholds, and NI bands, then shows the year-on-year difference in take-home pay.
Common Scenarios
Someone on £35,000 in 2021/22 vs 2025/26 has lost roughly £500/year in take-home due to frozen thresholds (fiscal drag), even though headline rates haven't increased. At £50,000, the effect of frozen thresholds costs approximately £1,100/year.
